I have spent a bit of time thinking forward, it is not something we often get a chance to do in YWAM IT as we are spending a lot of time playing catch up. My thinking was aimed towards trying to picture what will the world look like in 10 years, brace yourself cause here is what I have come up with....
The world is moving more and more into a mobile enviroment, and this is not just the west - in East Africa and CHina (these are the two cases I know about) cell phone networks are moving much faster and growing at a quicker rate then any physical cabling infrastructures. In the UK now you can stream live TV to your movile, use the internet, listen to any music and so much more.
'o2' which is a UK cell phone service provider is bringing a speed capability of 384kbps on cell phones at the end of this year - the mobile community is marching on. In Uganda, district nurses in remote areas use pda's to email problems they cannot diagnose to doctors in Kampala who give them the answers. All this is happening, and in terms of a technology, the mobile industry is barely 25 years old (and data on mobiles is less then 10)!! When thinking about mobile industry remember more people all over the world, do (and probably always will) own mobile phones then computers - the UK for example has more cell phones then people - but no where near that ratio for computers.
My question is , given that you can already post blogs from mobiles and photos instantly along with all the other stuff above, how can we in YWAM utilise this emerging monster and harness it for the Kingdom of God, and be first on this ship???
