Registration Problems

bill.hutchison's picture

I just received an e-mail the other day letting me know that there have been problems registering on this site. First off I want to apologize for the problems.

I have made some changes to the way that the user registration works now. Previously every new user required administrators approval, but I was not being notified of new registrations because the e-mail address was a generic one on the ywamit.com domain. I have changed it so that I will now be receiving the e-mail for registration on my personal account, but you will still need to respond to the automatic e-mail sent to you after you sign up before I get that e-mail.

If you still have any problems, or have had any problems in the past, then please contact us on our site-wide contact form. (If you tried this before and it didn't work that's because I didn't have it set-up right, again, sorry).

I know that required registration is a bit of a pain at times, but due to previous experience with SPAM we feel that this is still a needed function. My hope is also that it would help us to continue to grow as an IT community in YWAM.

Glad it's working!

Dear Bill,

Thanks for the post. I think it is really important that there is swift response to registration requests for a site like this. I must admit to feeling frustrated when I was waiting for approval when I registered. I asked my self questions like "Is this site serious?", "Do they want community, because all I can do is stand to the side and observe?".

I think the way the net is going these days the expectation for users of community sites is that the welcome from a site is in proportion to its swiftness in admitting a new member to contribute!

Spam is a terrible problem and you are right to deal with it firmly. I implemented a Captcha extension to the YWAMKB Wiki and that seems to work well and obviously is quick! But I do like this forum and I hope we may add many others to its community.

Thanks!

Kevin
