Some interesting ideas here....

What do you guys think of this? Not just from a technology standpoint but from a philosophical one.

A Social Network YWAM Base Site

Well, today we went live with a new web site / social network built on Ning, a hosted Social Networking solution.

Thank you to those of you who contributed to my previous discussion about YWAM and Social Networking. At that point we were exploring Ning and a Joomla plugin called Community Builder as options. My preference was Community Builder, or maybe Ning as a subdomain on our site, but they decided to go with a full Ning site.

Using the Right Social Technology for YWAM Africa

Over at the YWAM AfriCom blog they have posted an interesting story about using the appropriate technology for building the sense of "family" in YWAM Africa. I think that a lot of us automatically think of something like social networking for this, but they have some of their own thoughts on it that have a lot of merit.

Video Conferencing

Now that some talk is going on about IT, social networking and Skype I thought I throw a Slashdot discussion in here. Someone asked about FOSS Multi-point Video Conferencing solutions. Maybe some of you are interested in that discussion. http://ask.slashdot.org/askslashdot/08/05/18/1546227.shtml

Have fun reading it ;)

Thoughts about using IT in our working practices

I thought I should write up a few random thoughts in regard to using information technologies in our working practices. The reality is that the price of fuel is going up and our roads are becoming more congested. Further afield, the cost of air travel is also going up. Yet, we have access to relatively cheap bandwidth and tools.

YWAM and Social Networking

Does anyone out there have any suggestions or experience in creating a local / regional social network for our base?

We have been active on Facebook and MySpace, but have been thinking about a more localised or focused social networking idea. We've looked at a few different options, but I was wondering if anyone else out there had any suggestions?
